Welcome!

Considered one of the main agents of interaction between teaching and research activities for undergraduate and graduate courses at Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, the “Dr. Cid Santos Gesteira” Library, located at the Campinas Unit (SP), offers access to periodicals, academic papers, physical and digital books, and newspapers segmented in the health field, providing comprehensive research with reliable and up-to-date data.

The Library has its Quality Management System certified according to ISO 9001 standards, and its physical collection includes approximately 30,000 copies of the most modern works in the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as reference works, academic papers, periodicals, and other materials.

In digital format, approximately 7,500 book titles are available. MANDIC students also have access to millions of scientific articles and relevant databases for scientific research through the CAPES Periodicals Portal.

Library users also have access to the internet, bibliographic research, interlibrary loan (COMUT and BIREME), and verification of the standardization of academic work.

The São Leopoldo Mandic Library “Dr. Cid Santos Gesteira”, with more than a decade of existence, has been updating its collection and services, modernizing and adapting its physical space, expanding and training its staff to improve its services.

Thanks to this constant concern for the excellence of its collection and services, the Library has achieved certification of its Library Management System, according to the ISO 9001 standard, since 2006. Furthermore, in 2012, it was accepted as a cooperating member of the Virtual Health Library – Dentistry, in accordance with the parameters established by BIREME, contributing to the development of professionals in the dental field, both those linked to academic activities and those interested in continuing education as a form of personal improvement.

In this way, the Library is a space of extreme relevance to the Faculty's mission of anticipating educational trends, guaranteeing high-quality teaching and research, and contributing to the social improvement of the country.

The Senior Management of the São Leopoldo Mandic Library “Dr. Cid Santos Gesteira” is committed to the Quality Management System, as well as the provision and availability of adequate resources for implementation, maintenance, and required improvements.

Opening Hours

The Library is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, on a rotating shift basis.

Rules of use

Who are the library users?

The users are students and teachers from Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic alumni MANDIC, students from other educational institutions, and professionals in general.

Access

The Library provides lockers for users to store their bags and personal belongings, as access to the collection is only permitted with materials for note-taking, such as notebooks, pens, pencils, books, and laptops. Smoking, eating and drinking, and the use of sound devices, especially cell phones, are also prohibited on Library premises.

Home loan

  • It is available to all undergraduate students, faculty, and staff of the Institution registered in the Library.
  • The loan can only be made by the user themselves; withdrawals by third parties are not permitted.
  • The borrowed material will be checked by a library employee at the time of borrowing and upon return to verify its condition.
  • If there are any outstanding issues (overdue loans or fines), the user is prohibited from obtaining a new loan until the respective issues are resolved.
  • The loan of reference works (compendiums, dictionaries, indexes, catalogs), rare books, special collections, periodicals, monographs, dissertations, and theses is prohibited.
  • If there are no delays or reservations regarding the material, the user may renew the loan up to 2 (two) consecutive times via the online catalog.
  • If borrowed materials are in high demand during exam periods, academic work, or other activities, the Library may set a shorter loan period, or even temporarily suspend loans, in order to provide access to these materials to all interested parties.
  • Home loan of bibliographic material will be permitted as follows: students are entitled to borrow up to three items. Professors will be entitled to borrow up to five items at a time.
  • Regarding the return deadline, students have up to three business days to return books and one day to return atlases. Teachers will have five business days to return books and two days to return atlases. However, if the material is in high demand during exam periods, academic assignments, or other activities, the Library may reduce the deadline or suspend the loan period.
  • The system will send automatic loan notification emails.
  • External visitors may only consult bibliographic materials; home borrowing is not permitted.

Renewal

  • The loan may be renewed up to 2 (two) times, provided that the user has no outstanding issues with the Library and there is no reservation by another user.
  • Users can renew their materials through the website: www.slmandic.edu.br – library – online catalog – using their previously registered login and password.
  • The new return date will be calculated from the renewal date.
  • The system will send automatic renewal reminder emails.

Reservations

Reservations are made through the online catalog and are only allowed for users who have no outstanding balances.

Users will be able to make reservations through the online catalog for materials that are currently checked out and have no copies available in the Library.

  • Once the reservation is released by the Library system, when the material is returned, the user will receive an email notifying them of the reservation release and will have 24 (twenty-four) hours to borrow the item in person at the Library.
  • If the material is not picked up within 24 (twenty-four) hours, the reservation will be automatically deleted and released to the next user on the waiting list.
  • If there is a waiting list, reservations will be fulfilled according to the order in which they are requested in the system.
  • It is not possible to reserve materials that are available in the collection or materials that are already on loan to the user.
  • Reservations are permitted for users who have no outstanding issues with the Library.

Return

  • Borrowed materials must be returned to the terminals located at the service desks by handing the item to a staff member; leaving materials on the library counter is not permitted.
  • The user is responsible for the borrowed material until the return process is fully completed by the library staff member.
  • The system will send automatic return notification emails. Failure to receive the notification does not exempt the user from responsibility regarding the return deadline.
  • In case of late return of materials, a fine of R$ 5.00 will be charged per day of delay and per item.
  • The user is fully responsible for the material, both for consultation and loan; therefore, lost or damaged works must be replaced with identical or equivalent copies.

Delay

  • Delays in returning borrowed materials will result in a daily late payment fee and a fee for each delayed project.
  • Users with overdue materials or outstanding fines will not be able to use the materials loan, renewal, and reservation services.
  • Fines must be paid in cash at the library's service desk.

Losses and damages

  • Lost, stolen, damaged, or marked-up materials (using pens or highlighters) must be replaced with an identical copy from the same edition.
  • In case of loss, theft, robbery, or any damage to the materials, the user must immediately notify the Library.
  • The fine for any delay will be calculated up to the date the incident (loss, damage, theft or robbery) is reported to the Library.
  • After notification, the user will be informed of the timeframe and procedures for replacing the respective materials.
  • If the material is not replaced by the stipulated date, or if it is found and returned late, the fine will be calculated in full, starting from the date initially scheduled for return.
  • Copies, pirated materials, works in poor condition, and outdated works will not be accepted for replacement.
  • If the damage to the material is repairable, the user may arrange for the restoration service at a specialized company, at their own expense.
