Master's and Doctoral Academic Program in Dentistry

Structure Curriculum

The SLMANDIC Professional Master's program includes subjects in theoretical, methodological, didactic-pedagogical foundations, clinical training, and entrepreneurship, which are interconnected and provide the necessary support for the training of a highly qualified professional for teaching and the productive market. The program aims to develop critical, scientific, and entrepreneurial thinking, strengthening scientific and technological projects and lines of action that contribute to this goal. The dissertation work for course completion is developed according to the Areas of Concentration.

The SLMANDIC Master's program curriculum is structured around four pillars of education:

(1) technical training, according to the dental specialty among the 12 areas of concentration available in the program;
(2) scientific training;
(3) teacher training; and
(4) encouragement of entrepreneurship and technological innovation.

This strategy aims to meet the program's objectives in training a highly qualified professional, technically and scientifically skilled in conducting research and technological development, but above all, an entrepreneurial professional capable of directly addressing the needs of society in the professional world outside academia.

To enhance didactic-scientific training, the subjects of Biostatistics, Biosafety and Medical Emergencies, Scientific Research Methodology, Higher Education Teaching Methodology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Health Sciences, Drug Therapy, and Experimental and Human Bioethics are common to all areas of concentration, are mandatory, and aim to build the student's scientific thinking as well as the didactic-pedagogical training of the incoming student.

For technical training, each area of concentration in the program (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology, Restorative Dentistry, Temporomandibular Dysfunction and Orofacial Pain, Endodontics, Implantology, Digital Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Dental Prosthetics, Dental Radiology and Imaging, and Public Health) has its specific disciplines with a significant number of hours dedicated to clinical practice, as well as scientific experimentation and/or technological innovation. It is important to highlight that, in addition to the mandatory disciplines defined by each area of concentration, students have the opportunity to take up to 3 elective courses in another area of concentration, characterizing the multi- and interdisciplinary nature of the training for students entering the program. This possibility includes taking courses at other educational institutions, subject to approval by the program coordinator, which will be fully validated by the SLMANDIC Master's program. All the subjects included in the program were designed by integrating the curricular structure of the areas of concentration and the lines of research.
