History and mission
The São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty – MANDIC, has been active in higher education for almost two decades and is headquartered in the city of Campinas/São Paulo. The Regional Society for Education and Health maintains, in the educational area: the São Leopoldo Mandic; the São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty of Araras; the São Leopoldo Mandic Institute and Research Center; and the São Leopoldo Mandic Dental Research Center.
These institutions belong to the São Leopoldo Mandic Educational Group.
The institution, SLMANDIC, is guided by its General Regulations, Higher Education Legislation, and the Statute of its sponsoring organization, Sociedade Regional de Ensino e Saúde, which, since its inception, has maintained a commitment to its sponsored institution in the development of academic activities and in the maintenance and expansion of the physical structure, as foreseen in the Institutional Development Project.
The sponsoring organization, Sociedade Regional de Ensino e Saúde, and SLMANDIC, in a constant pursuit of understanding contemporary needs in health management, present as its mission to train, empower, and update professionals for the health field with excellence through advanced academic and technological means, grounded in research and humanization for citizen care. Our goal is to be a reference in the health field and in educational practices, recognized for excellence in research and the application of technology; to lead the concept of quality in the health field, academic and administrative management; in patient care; in respect for sustainability and interpersonal relationships. Seeking to establish research bases at the interface with undergraduate studies, it was decided to create the undergraduate course in Dentistry, with a pedagogical project focused on the contemporary needs of health management, according to the socioeconomic reality of the region. In 2003, the sponsoring organization, Sociedade Regional de Ensino e Saúde S/S Ltda. – SRES obtained accreditation for the São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty of Dentistry, according to MEC Ordinance No. 3,112 of October 31, 2003, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on November 4, 2003, with the Dentistry course, Bachelor's degree modality, and 60 daytime vacancies. The course began in 2004 and was recognized with the maximum concept of 5 (five) under SESU Ordinance No. 498, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on August 18, 2006. In 2014, according to Ordinance No. 820, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on December 30, 2014, the recognition was renewed, also with the maximum concept of 5.
In 2004, the Ministry of Education (MEC) granted SLMANDIC the renewal of authorization, through decree no. 2,530, to offer the Postgraduate Program in Dentistry – Professional Master's Degree modality, in accordance with CNE/CES opinion no. 050/2004, approved by the MEC in the Official Gazette of the Union, decree no. 2,610, of August 25, 2004. In 2005, the MEC granted SLMANDIC, through decree no. 2,878, authorization to offer the Postgraduate Program in Dentistry – Academic Master's and Doctorate modality, in accordance with CNE/CES opinion no. 65, approved by the MEC in the Official Gazette of the Union on May 22, 2006.
To meet the new aspirations and needs of its geographic area of influence, the Institution expanded its scope of activity by offering a Medicine course in 2013, as foreseen in the Institutional Development Project and Ordinance No. 132 of March 20, 2013. Under the terms of this Ordinance, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on March 21, 2013, the MEC (Ministry of Education) approved, with the maximum score – 5 (five), the undergraduate Medicine course at São Leopoldo Mandic, to be offered at the Campinas campus. Upon the start of the Medicine course, the institution's name was changed from Faculdade de Odontologia São Leopoldo Mandic to Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic – SLMANDIC. This change was decided and approved at the 86th Meeting of the Higher Council of the Higher Education Institution, held on May 28, 2015, forwarded to the Ministry of Education and consolidated by Ministry of Education Ordinance No. 801 of October 26, 2015.
Since the creation of the General Index of Evaluated Courses of the Institution (IGC), the Institution has maintained a score of 5, the highest possible score, in this evaluation. In 2016, it obtained 4.4717 in the Continuous IGC. During previous years, it maintained a score of 5, always establishing itself as one of the 10 best HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) ranked in this ranking.
These figures are the result of SLMANDIC's institutional commitment, which has a vision to be a benchmark in the field of health and educational practices, recognized for excellence in research, human resource training, and technological development. Within this institutional context lies the Professional Master's Program in Dentistry at the São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty.
